Shiv Kumar has returned to Delhi after having been named the First ever Indian to win a Gold medal at Mr Asia Body Building Championship. In times when other sports like cricket, hockey take the majoritarian space in sports covers, Body Building stemming from old-age ‘Kasrat and Kushti’ has come to the fore. Without government providing for any major funds to the sports, the lone Body Builder has managed to make India proud with a glistening gold medal.
Held in Vietnam, the Championship was held between August27 to September 1, 2013. Shiv Kumar was able to out win his counterpart in the 70 kg-weightlifting championship. On his arrival to the Capital city of New Delhi, a crowd of 15 bodybuilders were seen to be welcoming him with flowers and drums. It was more like a sea of shirtless body builders flexing their muscles, and wooing on the arrival on Shiv Kumar.
Shiv Kumar is a true Delhiite, having been born and brought up in the city. Now, 41 years old Shiv has been working as a clerk with the Indian Railways. His guide, coach and mentor Mr Subhash Bhadana, the owner of Health India Gym says, “Shiv was a diligent practitioner. He has been training with me for 20 years and this is a result of his day in and out hardwork.”
With plans to further this success, Shiv is now excited to take up more such international events. Having made India proud with this feat, he said, “It’s an honor to have been able to wear the Tri-color while being given the medal. I want to re-live this proud moment again and again.”
Currently enjoying his win with his family members, Shiv is expected to do a meet with his fellow Body Builders so as to instill a sense of new sense of confidence in them.
